Day Of Prayer

The Student Missionary Union encouraged students to focus on and take initiative in prayer on Monday, hosting Biola’s annual Day of Prayer. The campus-wide event included a 24-hour prayer room in the A.S. Conference Room, early-morning prayer, morning chapel, a lunch fast, and evening chapel.

Throughout the day students were given prayer points, which focused on the Biola community in early afternoon, Los Angeles and the United States in late afternoon, and foreign nations in the evening. Students were offered communion at morning chapel after hearing from President Corey. Evening chapel attendees heard testimonies and prayer requests from international students.

Prayer Directors Jo Torrey and Geoff Alfasa coordinated the event as a continuing effort to increase prayer on campus this semester. Alfasa and Torrey have been leading daily prayer weekdays at 7:15 a.m., also offering students the opportunity to lead their own prayer in “Global Intercession Groups”.

In morning chapel Monday, Alfasa expressed desire for intercession to be a priority beyond the one-day event: “Every day is a day of prayer,” he said. Biola University has a history of committed student prayer, with global prayer groups starting back to the 1920’s.

Anyone interested in leading a Global Intercession Group (GIG) or hosting a prayer event on campus can email the SMU Prayer Directors on Bubbs or stop by the office in the Student Union Building.
