The Advancement

Before Jesus returned to heaven, he told his beloved to spread out from Jerusalem and advance the kingdom of God to every land on the earth. He imparted a lifestyle to them; let your feet be led by the Spirit of God and wherever you go, carry my story with you. And now, generations later, this lifestyle must be imparted to us.

When we discover something important, we generally invest time in it one way or another. The Student Missionary Union has always valued the missional lifestyle Jesus imparted to his followers, and now we are offering an opportunity for students to invest time in developing his passion. This fall, we are launching The Advancement, which is a Tuesday night chapel, held weekly for the Biola student body.

In addition to serving as a corporate worship opportunity, the Advancement will be a place where students can make a connection between their personal relationship with God and how to live out that relationship missionally, as Jesus called us to do in Matthew 28:18-19 and Matthew 22:39. Our goal is to grow in understanding of the heart of God so that we can develop sensitivity to his burdens and out of that sensitivity begin to act as God’s body on the earth. One incredible thing about Jesus’ sacrifice is that we were made perfectly clean so the Spirit of God can live inside of us and come out through every working cell in our body to complete his purposes. God is doing his work on this planet through us, flesh and blood.

The Advancement will focus on fusing the passions, gifts, and desires of individual students to the movement of God’s kingdom throughout the world and the needs of peoples we have been called to love. Our first few chapels will be centered on the theme of Faith, Hope, and Love, referring to 1 Corinthians 13:1-13.

Please come and receive. Come and explore the heart of God with us.
